Proof Of Concept (POC)

A Proof Of Concept (POC) is a rapid technical demonstration aiming to prove the feasibility of an idea, technology, or solution before committing to full development.
Unlike an MVP which aims to validate a use, a POC seeks to address a technical doubt : is an API suitable? does the AI model deliver on its promises? will the architecture scale?

Why do a POC

  • Address a technical doubt before a significant budgetary commitment.
  • Test a third-party integration (API, sensor, AI model).
  • Compare several technical approaches quickly.
  • Convince decision-makers with a demo rather than a slide.

How to frame an effective POC

  • Written, measurable success criterion, validated upfront.
  • Minimal scope - the technical question, nothing else.
  • Time-boxing - 2 to 6 weeks maximum.
  • Clear decision at the end: we continue, we adjust, we abandon.

Caveats

  • Do not slip into MVP - a POC does not validate the market, just feasibility.
  • Do not put a POC into production - to be discarded or properly refactored.
  • Document what has been learned (positive and negative).
