Brandbook

A brandbook is the reference document that brings together all the identity elements of a brand: logo, colours, typographies, tone of voice, usage rules, and application examples.
It serves to guarantee the visual and editorial consistency of the brand across all media, whether created internally or by external partners.

The Brandbook in practice

Why a Brandbook

  • Ensures brand consistency across all media: website, app, print, social media.
  • Empowers external partners (agencies, freelancers, printers).
  • Accelerates the production of new media.

What a brandbook contains

  • Logo and variations (versions, spacing, restrictions).
  • Colour palette (RGB, HEX, CMYK, Pantone codes).
  • Typographies and text hierarchy.
  • Iconography, illustrations, photos.
  • Tone of voice and copy examples.
  • Application examples on key media.

Caveats

  • Must be alive - open, share, update regularly.
  • Remain pragmatic - 200 pages of inapplicable rules = abandoned brandbook.
  • Include native digital (UI, motion) alongside print.
