What is NF 525?

NF 525 is the AFNOR certification mark applied to cash management software. Mandatory since 2018 for all VAT-registered businesses in France, it guarantees the unalterability, security, retention, and archiving of till data.
Specifically, NF 525 certified software must be able to prove to an AFNOR auditor that no sales line can be deleted or modified retrospectively, that daily, monthly, and annual closings are calculated and archived correctly, and that the code complies with a very precise set of specifications regarding data flows.

1. Compliance Audit

We analyse your existing software in light of the NF 525 specifications: architecture, data model, ticket flows, event log, archiving mechanisms. We deliver a precise mapping of the gaps to be filled and a quantified estimate of the work.

2. Technical Compliance

Our developers implement the missing mechanisms: ticket signing and chaining, periodic closings management, unalterable event log, fine-grained duplicate management in multi-terminal environments (by invoiceKey), legal exports. We work with your teams or autonomously.

3. Preparation and Submission of the AFNOR Audit

We prepare the eligibility form, support the pre-audit, address identified discrepancies, and accompany you through to the final audit with a certification body (AFNOR / INFOCERT / LNE). We remain available for annual surveillance audits.

If your software records till operations (cash collection, payment, till receipt, invoice) for a VAT-registered business in France, the answer is very probably yes. The cost breaks down into two items: (1) software compliance, which depends on the gap between your current code and the NF 525 requirements, and (2) the AFNOR audits themselves - allow approximately €7,500 per audit, usually with a white audit followed by a final audit, plus an annual surveillance audit. This depends entirely on the state of your software. For a product already well-architected, a few sprints may suffice to close the gaps.
