Vibe coding

Vibe coding is a development approach popularised in 2025 that involves writing code by describing intentions in natural language to an AI, then continuously iterating with it rather than typing each line oneself.
The developer becomes more of a conductor : guiding, reviewing, testing, and correcting, while the AI handles code production. This practice significantly accelerates prototyping but demands increased vigilance regarding the quality and security of the generated code.

Vibe coding in practice

When vibe coding brings the most value

  • Rapid Prototyping - go from an idea to a demo in hours rather than weeks.
  • One-off internal tools where maintenance is not critical.
  • Exploring technical avenues before formal framing.

Essential tools

  • Editing assistants: Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot.
  • Agents: Claude Agent SDK, Devin, OpenHands.
  • Workflow: generation + automatic tests + human review.

Caveats

  • Generated code still needs reviewing: security, quality, maintenance.
  • Tendency to over-engineering - AI often proposes more than necessary.
  • Technical debt to anticipate if the prototype goes into production.
  • Human skill essential for framing the intention and arbitrating choices.
